Admiral Robert J. Papp, Jr. (ret) assumed the duties of the 24th Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard on May 25, 2010. He leads the largest component of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), comprised of 42,000 active duty, 8,200 Reserve, 8,000 civilian and 31,000 volunteer Auxiliarists. On July 16th, 2014, Admiral Papp was appointed U.S. Special Representative for the Arctic, in preparation for the U.S. taking over the Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in May 2015.
