Since shrinking at a torrid pace in the first half of July, the Arctic sea ice meltdown has slowed markedly.

But, more remarkable, was the incredible snow melt that preceded the toasty month and the sudden loss of Arctic sea ice that followed.
[ More ]A new study indicates that the Arctic Ocean is also becoming more acidic, another consequence caused by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. It’s a process that occurs when carbon dioxide dissolves out of the air and into the sea, lowering the water’s pH in the process.
[ More ]The authors, John Norton Moore and Lawrence S. Eagleburger (secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush), argue that if the Senate fails to ratify the Law of the Sea treaty, "our allies and adversaries alike will note that U.S. foreign policy has been diminished by an ideological extreme."
[ More ]The authors argue that ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea would jeopardize U.S. counterterrorism efforts by placing them under the control of unaccountable tribunals.
